Drawing Through the Walls has four goals:
- Amplify the voices of those who have been incarcerated.
- Give readers the opportunity to identify and/or empathize with the stories depicted.
- Illustrate the many costs of incarceration to our communities, our neighbors, our families and our friends.
- Connect resources for those wanting to learn about the costs of incarceration and how to support those within the system.
Drawing Through the Walls, Brooklyn
This current cycle of Drawing Through the Walls is focusing on experiences of incarceration as felt by the Brooklyn, NY community.
This may include incarceration within Brooklyn, or how incarceration was experienced within your Brooklyn community, family, and neighborhood.
Participants in this project can do any or all of the following:
- Create their own comic regarding their experience of incarceration and talk about it in a one-on-one workshop.
- Participate in a 5 week online comic workshop with artist Jan Descartes to workshop memoir comic creation. There is no cost for the workshops.
- Videos of workshops are now available to view at your convenience on the Workshops tab.
- Submit comics for the online gallery.
