Drawing Through the Walls has four goals:
Drawing Through the Walls, Brooklyn
This current cycle of Drawing Through the Walls is focusing on experiences of incarceration as felt by the Brooklyn, NY community.
This may include incarceration within Brooklyn, or how incarceration was experienced within your Brooklyn community, family, and neighborhood.
Participants in this project can do any or all of the following:
Jan Descartes (she/her) is an artist, educator, curator, activist and prison abolitionist. She is leading online workshops and editing Drawing Through the Walls #1, Brooklyn 2020. She is currently the co-curator of Our Comics, Ourselves, co-creator of Heartland Comic, a collective member of Pop Gym, and a curator at Booklyn, Inc.
Drawing Through the Walls is supported by a grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council, funded by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA).
